Find out about applying for a reduction in council tax because someone has passed away.
If someone living in your home dies you can apply for a 25% discount on your council tax. This would only apply if there is only one adult left living at the address.
You may not have to pay council tax if both the following apply:
the property is empty after someone has died and
probate or letters of administration have not been granted
A further six months may be awarded when probate or letters of administration are granted.
