Renew your vows

Book a personal ceremony to renew your vows and your commitment to each other.

A renewal of vows is a special way for couples to celebrate and renew the original vows they made to each other.

It is a way to celebrate an anniversary or a renewed commitment to each other after a period of difficulty. If you had your original ceremony abroad, it allows you to have a ceremony with family and friends who couldn't be there.

It has no legal status and is available to any couple no matter how long they have been married.

The ceremony

The ceremony lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. This depends on the number of options and readings you have. Your ceremony can include:

  • readings and music
  • relatives and friends in the ceremony
  • personal vows of commitment
  • the exchanging of rings
  • the signing of a commemorative certificate

You can have a renewal of vows ceremony at the register office, the ceremony room or an approved venue. Contact the venue first to make sure that the date you want is available.

Book a registrar

Once you have booked your venue you need to book a registrar to conduct your ceremony. There is a fee which depends on the day and time you have your ceremony. You will need to pay a £90 deposit when you make your booking.
