We have been successful in securing funding to make improvements along the Western Corridor between Churscombe Cross and Windy Corner. 

Part of the funding has been agreed in principle through the Local Transport Board with other funding secured through the Local Pinch Point Fund. The Local Pinch Point Fund application for the Western Corridor can be found on our Pinch Point Funding Application page.

Phases of the scheme

We have been successful in our application for government funding under its 'Pinch Point' funding programme.

As a result a section of the A3022 Brixham Road, known as the ‘Western Corridor’ was widened using this funding, between Long Road and Roselands Drive/Wilkins Drive.

The scheme was completed in December 2015.

This scheme will widen the A3022 Brixham Road, between Clayland Cross and Yannons Farm. It will create two lanes in both directions on Brixham Road, linking the sections of Brixham Road that have already been widened. A layout of the scheme can be seen in the attached link below. 

Work on this scheme started in January 2018.

Work to divert a major gas main was completed in November 2018.

Major drainage works start in January 2019, due to be completed March 2019.

Retaining wall works due to be completed in March 2019.

Road construction to start in April 2019.

Final surfacing May 2019.

New traffic signals to be commissioned May / Jun 2019.

Scheme due to be completed by the main summer period 2019.

Kings Ash Road Improvements: Tweenaway Cross to Waterleat Road


This scheme widened the A380 Kings Ash Road, between Tweenaway Cross and Waterleat Road. This scheme will extend the Tweenaway Cross improvement already completed in the northerly direction. The scheme increases the capacity of the Tweenaway Cross junction reducing congestion along Kings Ash Road by:

  • Extending the north bound merge lane leaving Tweenaway Cross Junction;
  • Providing more capacity for southbound traffic approaching Tweenaway Cross Junction;
  • Staggering the toucan crossing on Kings Ash Road, just north of Waterleat Road; and
  • Providing a right hand turn lane from Kings Ash Road into Waterleat Road.

This scheme will increase the capacity of A380 between the Churscombe Cross junction and Luscombe Lane, which will allow future growth in the area around Great Parks. The scheme commenced in February 2017 and was completed in December 2017.

This scheme would improve the busy A3022/A379 ‘Windy Corner’ junction by providing two lanes for traffic coming from the Brixham direction on Dartmouth Road and a separate lane for traffic from Paignton, using Bascombe Road. A layout of the scheme can be seen below.

The scheme is due to start on site January 2019 with completion scheduled for June 2019.
