Find out about what to do if you receive a summons

Our Council Tax payment system will be offline on

  • Sunday 15 March, from 10am to 1pm
  • Tuesday 17 March, from 5pm to 6pm.

This is due to scheduled maintenance. You will not be able to pay your Council Tax during this time.

We add £60 court costs to your account when we send you a summons. If you do not pay in full, including these costs, by the court date on the summons:

  • the magistrates will grant a liability order for the amount owed
  • an additional £25 court costs will be added to your account

A liability order authorises us to take recovery action to collect the debt.

There are many recovery methods we use to recover council tax debt.

If you are experiencing difficulties you can ask to set up a payment arrangement.

The magistrate will not be able to change the amount you owe.
