Business rates

Find out about the collection of business rates (national non-domestic rates), how to pay and if you can get a reduction in your payments.

We have a current waiting time for Business Rates processing of 6 weeks. Please help us by not contacting us during this time. Please continue to pay your bill as issued,  accounts will not be placed on hold during this time. Any overpayments or recovery action will be dealt with at the time of processing your enquiry where applicable.

Be the first to know about changes to your property’s valuation for business rates. Valuations are changing soon. With a Valuation Office Agency’s (VOA) business rates valuation account, you can:

  • check the details the VOA holds
  • tell the VOA if something is wrong
  • see how your property’s valuation was worked out.

HMRC Valuation Office

From 1 April 2026, the Valuation Office Agency have become part of HMRC and will be referred to as HMRC Valuation Office. New content will be featured on HMRC’s website as the VOA no longer have their own website. Customers do not need to take any action, the helpline and contact form will remain the same so please continue to contact them in the same way.

Please note, Torbay Council is not involved in the assessment of your rateable value and is unable to assist in cases where there is a delay in the HMRC Valuation Office Check, Challenge Appeal process.
