If you have received a bill for 2017/2018 which is for a higher amount than you were expecting, this could be due to a transitional adjustment. You can find information and examples of how it is calculated on our transitional adjustment page.

The rates you pay on your business property depend on its rateable value. This is calculated by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

If you think your rates are wrong you can:

  • Check your details
  • Compare your valuation details with other properties, e.g. to see how much similar premises are being charged
  • Request changes to your valuation details if they’re wrong

If you still think they are wrong you can appeal against the rates you’re being charged.
