How Channel works

Find out what we do to prevent extremism and terrorism and what to do if you think someone is involved.

Local Authorities, police and statutory partners work together to:

  • Identify individuals at risk of being drawn into extremism or terrorism.
  • Assess the nature and extent of that risk.
  • Develop individual, tailored support plans.
  • Offer support. Those offered support will need to give their consent. We will ask for consent from parents/carers when someone is under 18.
  • Check for safeguarding concerns not relating to extremism or terrorism. We will then make sure the individual can access appropriate support.

Support by the Channel process will not result in a person having a criminal record.

See How to report concerns or ACT Early for more information.
