Our approach to inclusion

Find out more about our approach to inclusion and equality as an organisation.

As an organisation, we take a broad approach to our inclusion work and will continue to do so. we recognise that groups such as people experiencing financial hardship, veterans, carers, and care leavers amongst others can also face barriers, in addition to those with protected characteristics.
In April 2017, we adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of Anti-Semitism as follows:

“Anti-Semitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

We continue to actively support and work with our partners to promote cohesion in Torbay.

We are proud of the steps that we have taken to promote inclusion, however we are aware that further work is needed to fully mainstream inclusion across the Council and are fully committed to doing so. In 2024, we will have a renewed focus on inclusion and will be driving forward work across the Council. Our approach will be guided by the Local Government Association’s Equality Framework for Local Government.
