We have secured £20 million in Government Local Regeneration Fund, formerly known as Levelling Up Funding, to support local jobs and strengthen long-term economic growth in two key sectors: fishing and photonics.
Part of this investment is allocated to support the creation of a Torbay Technology Park to support Torbay’s growing high-tech sector.
It forms part of our commitment to supporting our local businesses to grow and innovate, creating new jobs and products and boosting the local economy.
The Torbay Technology Park is designed to capitalise on the strength of the high-tech sector in Torbay and build on the success of the existing Electronics and Photonics Innovation Centre (EPIC).
EPIC is home to 14 high tech businesses employing 230 people but is currently at capacity. The last 12 months have seen 75 new jobs created and a further £46M of private and public investment into the businesses. Torbay Technology Park will support the continued growth of some of these businesses that now need bigger space to grow.
The project will help to enhance Torbay’s growing national and international reputation in the electronics and photonics sector, attracting inward investment and accelerating local economic growth.
It will also drive an increase in highly skilled, highly paid jobs, as well as helping to support new career pathways for Torbay’s young people with the aim of encouraging more young people to build their careers locally.
The Torbay Technology Park project is expected to deliver over 2,000 square metres of business space. It is expected to create around 100 new high-tech jobs and generate £10 million in additional economic value each year.
Phase one of this project incorporates the acquisition and re-purposing of an existing business unit on Westfield Business Park. This will meet the immediate need for additional space to support existing EPIC businesses to grow and stay in Torbay.
It will deliver 1,765 square metres of re-purposed business space and support the creation of 100 jobs in the high-tech sector.
We acquired the building in April 2026. It will now undergo a full programme of work to modernise the facilities and services. This will include the creation of four independent spaces, including two labs, associated office space and improvements to the overall energy efficiency of the building. Work on the building is expected to start in summer 2026.
Following the completion of this work, the building will be ready to support new tenants.
