Supporting more people to move more.
The heart of all sport and physical activity is in our local clubs, community groups and activity providers. The covid years had a catastrophic impact on sports clubs and participation in sport in general. This has been detrimental to people’s physical health and their mental wellbeing.
We are fully aware that it is a struggle for clubs and groups to attract the same number of participants as before. Providing extra financial support can help attract new members and encourage old members to return.
With this in mind, we have introduced a new-look funding stream. It is called the ‘More Active, More Often Fund.’ It is part of our Torbay on the Move initiative for 2025/26. Awards of up to £2,000 are possible to help with widening provision by offering new sessions for groups of participants that would not normally join.
This funding shows our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of residents. We want to help those who would not normally turn to physical activity and sport. We know it will result in improving their overall wellbeing.
We want to support projects that bring a community together. We want to help provide opportunities for people who may be less physically active.
We want organisations to look at working together across the community to make the biggest possible impact.
Our priority is to support projects working with people from our disadvantaged communities.
A disadvantaged community faces economic and social challenges. This includes groups like women, girls, and people with multiple needs. They may have fewer opportunities for physical activity and sports.
Funds are available for project costs such as:
