Bikeability – Terms and Conditions for Parents/Carers

Parent/Carer Cycle Training Consent Form Conditions

  1. Whilst close supervision will be exercised at all times, there is an element of risk to the trainee whilst undertaking cycle training. We believe this is essential, but it is for you, as parent or carer, to decide whether to enrol your child for this course.
  2. Qualified Cycling Instructors will deliver all training.
  3. Every care will be taken to ensure your child’s safety. Your attention, however, is drawn to the insurance cover provided by Torbay Council which is for public liability only and does not provide Personal Accident insurance for anyone undertaking this course.  Torbay Council does not accept responsibility for the actions or personal behaviour of participants.
  4. Torbay Council is not responsible for any injury to persons or loss or damage to property, which does not result from the negligence of an instructor. Torbay Council also accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any injury, loss or damage which occurs on the way to and from a lesson or training base.
  5. Any participants who are disruptive, persistently misbehave or put others in danger will be asked to leave the sessions and will not be allowed to attend in the future.
  6. Any child attending the Bikeability Level 2 course must be able to ride a bicycle competently and have good control and balance.
  7. Whilst undergoing tuition, a properly fitting cycle safety helmet complying with CE EN 1078 Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets for persons aged 5 and older must be worn. For Bikeability Level 2, the instructor will provide high visibility waistcoats, which must be worn.
  8. Your child must be the equivalent of year 1 or above to enrol on a Learn to Ride or Bikeability Level 1 course and year 5 or above for a Level 2 course.
  9. The bicycle used must be clean, roadworthy and of a suitable size for the rider.
  10. Torbay Council reserves the right to refuse admission to any child who does not meet conditions 6, 7, 8 & 9 stated above.
  11. If you wish to cancel your child's place on a course within 4 weeks of the start date, their school may be liable for a cancellation fee to the value of Government funding for their place. The school may choose to pass this charge onto you.
