Core Public Realm (GPO Roundabout)

The Core Area is the roundabout (GPO) and taxi waiting area between Union Street and Fleet Street.

The proposals include:

• Removing the taxi rank at the GPO roundabout
• Installing a new pedestrian crossing and seating

Funding

The public realm improvements will cost around £250,000, which is allocated from the Towns Fund.

Project benefits

Improvements proposed for this area will:

• Reduce motor vehicle flow
• Make it a more attractive area for residents
• Improve the connection between the two main shopping streets

This will help to:

• Make the town centre more attractive to residents and visitors
• Increase footfall
• Encourage more investment in the surrounding area

Project timeline

We plan to start this project during the 2022/23 financial year.
