Promiting independence
People told us they wanted support to regain their skills, confidence and independence following illness, injury or a period of declining health. Reablement services work alongside people to help them achieve their goals and do as much as possible for themselves, reducing or delaying the need for ongoing care and support.
Building on the success of an initial pilot, we expanded our reablement offer during 2025/26 by working with local care providers to develop a new Community Reablement service. This has increased choice and helped make reablement support available to more people across Torbay.
Early evidence suggests that more people are being supported to remain independent, recover more quickly and make greater use of community-based support. Reablement continues to play an important role in helping people stay active, confident and connected to their communities.
Reablement provides short-term support to help people regain confidence, skills and independence after illness or injury. By expanding these services across Torbay, more people can access support to remain independent and recover well at home.
