Learning and improving

We continue to learn from people's experiences and from safeguarding reviews when things have gone wrong. During the year we strengthened our approach to supporting people experiencing self-neglect, improved partnership working and invested in staff training to help professionals respond effectively to complex situations.

Looking ahead

Over the next year we will continue to:

  • Improve how we support people experiencing complex risks and self-neglect.
  • Strengthen protection for people who may struggle to make important decisions.
  • Increase public awareness of safeguarding.
  • Listen to the experiences of people who use services and their carers.
  • Work closely with partners to keep people safe and well.

Our ambition is that every adult in Torbay can live safely, independently and with dignity, supported by services that put their rights, wishes and wellbeing at the heart of everything they do.

What does this mean for you?

If concerns are raised about your wellbeing, we will work with you, and those important to you, to understand what matters most and take action to reduce risks where needed.

We want people to be listened to, involved in decisions about their lives, and supported to achieve the outcomes that are important to them. If you need additional support to understand your rights or express your views, independent advocacy can help ensure your voice is heard.

By working closely with health services, care providers, community organisations and families, we aim to help people stay safe, maintain their independence and remain in control of decisions about their care and support.
