Community engagement and impact

During 2025/26, Technology Enabled Care Services increased engagement with residents, carers and professionals through community events, carers' groups, workshops and rehabilitation services. These activities provided opportunities for people to learn about the range of technology available to support independence, safety and wellbeing.

The team worked with local partners to showcase how technology can help reduce risks, support recovery and provide reassurance for individuals and their families. Demonstrations were delivered at community events, carers' groups and rehabilitation settings, helping to increase awareness of Technology Enabled Care and the support available across Torbay.

Feedback from residents, carers and professionals was positive, with many highlighting the practical benefits of seeing technology in action and understanding how it could support people to remain independent at home. This engagement has helped build confidence in technology-enabled support and created further opportunities to promote the service across local communities.

Mr W – Improving Safety and Confidence at Home

Mr W relied on his telecare service for reassurance and emergency support but was experiencing difficulties communicating with the monitoring centre from parts of his home. Following an assessment, the team installed upgraded telecare equipment in a more suitable location, ensuring reliable communication throughout the property. This improved confidence in the service and enabled Mr W to continue living safely and independently at home, knowing support could be reached when needed.

Supporting a Person at Risk of Wandering

An 82-year-old resident was found wandering outside their property in the early hours of the morning, creating concern for family members and increasing the risk of harm. Following assessment, Technology Enabled Care specialists recommended a combination of reminder technology and a GPS device with geofencing capability. This provided reassurance to family members, reduced the risk of future incidents and helped the person remain safely at home, avoiding the need for more intensive support.

Technology continues to play an important role in helping people remain independent, supporting recovery, reducing risks and enabling people to stay safely at home for longer.

What does this mean for you?

Technology such as alarms, sensors, GPS devices and reminder systems can help people remain safe, independent and confident in their own homes. We are continuing to expand and improve these services so that more people can access personalised support that helps them live independently for longer.
