Local Development Orders

Find out about Local Development Orders and any currently in place in Torbay.

A Local Development Order (LDO) is a tool within the planning system. It is used to grant planning permission for certain types of development within a defined area. It removes the need for submitting a planning application. The granting of an LDO can:

  • improve certainty for development proposals
  • provide a more flexible approach to development or redevelopment
  • encourage growth and investment on specific sites

Development granted under the LDO will be subject to meeting certain parameters. This is set out in the LDO. Development will be subject to conditions to inform and shape development.
