Listening and learning from people's experiences

People's experiences help us understand what is working well and where we need to improve. Throughout the year, people who draw on care and support, carers, families and partner organisations shared feedback about their experiences of Adult Social Care services. This feedback helps us improve services, strengthen professional practice and ensure support remains focused on the outcomes that matter most to local people.

The infographic below provides an overview of the feedback received during 2025/26. All feedback helps us learn and improve the support we provide.

Make a difference: Feedback from people we support

We also continue to learn from people with lived experience. Autism Ambassador Heidi shares her experience of autism in Torbay, her involvement in local support and advocacy, and how she is helping to improve understanding of autism across health and social care through her role as an Oliver McGowan Trainer. Heidi's story highlights the importance of listening to people's experiences and ensuring services are shaped by the people who use them.

Feedback received during the year consistently highlighted the importance of compassionate, person-centred support and the positive difference it can make to people's lives. People told us they value support that helps them remain independent, stay connected to their communities and have a voice in decisions about their care and support. We will continue to use feedback from people, families and carers to shape and improve Adult Social Care services across Torbay.

What does this mean for you?

People receive support that is tailored to their individual needs, helps them maintain their independence and enables them to stay connected to their communities. Specialist services provide support at different stages of life and during times of increased need, while feedback from people, families and carers helps shape services and improve how support is delivered. This means people have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them and benefit from services that are informed by lived experience and focused on the outcomes that matter most.
