Our staff are at the heart of Adult Social Care. Every day, they demonstrate compassion, professionalism and commitment while supporting people with increasingly complex needs.

During 2025/26, we continued to invest in our workforce to ensure people receive high-quality care and support. This included strengthening professional leadership, expanding learning and development opportunities, and improving the support available to staff.

Key developments included:

  • Re-establishing the Principal Social Worker role to provide professional leadership and help ensure high-quality social work practice.
  • Appointing a new Education and Training Lead to strengthen staff learning and development.
  • Expanding training and development opportunities for staff, helping them build the skills and knowledge needed to support people effectively.
  • Developing new practice standards and supervision arrangements to provide clearer guidance, encourage reflective practice and support staff wellbeing.
  • Creating more opportunities for staff to share feedback and shape service improvements, ensuring their experience helps inform how services develop.

Staff have continued to work through a period of significant organisational change while maintaining a strong focus on supporting local people. Their resilience, dedication and commitment have been central to delivering services throughout the year.

Looking ahead

During 2026/27, we will continue to invest in our workforce by introducing a new care management system, expanding learning and development opportunities, strengthening professional supervision and developing clear career pathways.

We will also continue to support staff through organisational change, ensuring they feel informed, valued and equipped to provide the best possible support to local people.

Our aim is to create an environment where staff can thrive, develop their skills and continue delivering high-quality care and support across Torbay.

What does this mean for you?

By investing in training, professional development and staff wellbeing, we are helping to ensure that people receive consistent, high-quality support from professionals who have the skills, experience and confidence to help them achieve what matters most and live as independently as possible.
