Stay safe on a night out with Travel Guardian app

We’ve partnered with imabi to launch the Torbay area on Travel Guardian.

Travel Guardian is a free national digital safety app on your smartphone.

It makes it easier for people to report anti-social behaviour concerns and access support when out and about, especially when travelling at night or when it’s dark.

The app gives users Torbay-specific information, including the locations of taxi ranks, bus stops, safe spaces, public toilets, medical equipment, and more.

The app offers clear reporting routes for users to report safety concerns or ASB anonymously, wherever they are.

The app also offers real-time alerts, links to local and national support organisations, and geo-location tools such as Share Journey so you can let trusted contacts know where you are.

Our partnership follows on from a Safer Torbay survey that found 48% of respondents felt unsafe using public transport after dark. Other findings from our survey:

  • Most people feel safe on public transport during the day.
  • Females, young people, and disabled people are more likely to feel unsafe when using public transport after dark.
  • 42% of respondents have witnessed, or experienced, crime or harassment.
  • People aged 54 and under are twice as likely to have experienced, or witnessed, crime of harassment on public transport than those aged older.
  • 31% of people who experienced or witnessed crime or harassment reported it.
  • Only 12% of people think there are enough security measures in place on public transport.

We’ve funded the app thanks to a grant from GWR’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund, which funds projects to support customers on public transport.
