Process and decision making

Find out more about the local heritage grant application process and how funding is awarded.

An important part of the new scheme is to ensure decisions are made in Torbay. To do this we have set up a Heritage Grants Decision Panel. The panel will be made up of:

  • Two young people supported by Johanna Morrell, Partnerships Manager for Imagine This, Torbay Communities
  • Steven Chown, Community Grants Advisor, Torbay Communities
  • Dr Kevin Dixon, local historian, member of the advisory board of Torbay Culture, Chair of Healthwatch Torbay
  • Lucinda Heron, Torre Abbey Manager, member of the Geopark Management Group
  • Cllr Jackie Thomas, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture & Events and Corporate Services

The Decision Panel will be convened by an appropriate officer working in culture / heritage at Torbay Council.

The process

  • Applications received will be checked for eligibility and passed to the panel for review and scoring.
  • Panel to convene and discuss applications, review scores, and make recommendations for funding.
  • Where applications are not successful, feedback will be offered, and where appropriate applicants will be encouraged to apply in a future round or signposted to other grant schemes if applicable.
  • Successful grant applications will be advised of the decision and given the go ahead to start their project.
  • Successful grant applications will be given advice and support by the Heritage Grant Advisor and will be asked to participate in the evaluation conducted by the Evaluators.
