If you hold a Private Hire licence, you are able to add a new vehicle attached to that licence.

If you wish to add a new vehicle attached to the licence, it must meet our specification. Read the Hackney Carriage (Taxi) and Private Hire Policy for the specifications and more information.

Applications

To apply to licence a new vehicle, please log into your online account.

When making your application, please select ‘New Private Hire vehicle application’ as we no longer carry out vehicle changes.

Important

Once an application has been submitted, you must upload the following images to our Taxi Licensing Upload portal

• V5 Registration document, or, the bill of sale
• Vehicle insurance certificate (not the schedule)
• Proof of £5 million Public Liability insurance
• A photo showing the old licence plate cut up and destroyed

The old vehicle will immediately be unable to be used and the proposed new vehicle cannot be used until you receive the new licence plate.

If you currently hold a Private Hire vehicle proprietors licence and apply for a new vehicle application, you will be issued with the following refund once your application has been submitted:

• a refund for any whole months left on the current licence
• a refund for any missed months (enforcement costs) on the new licence
• a refund for the full Operator licence cost of the application if you currently hold an Operator's licence.
