Advertising your licence application

You will need to advertise on site and in the local newspaper if you submit an application for:

  • a new premises licence
  • a new club premises certificate
  • a provisional statement
  • a full licence variation

When to advertise your application

You should advertise from the day after you submit your application for 28 consecutive days

How to advertise your application on site

You should display a notice which is:

  • at least A4 in size (21cm by 29.7cm)
  • pale blue in colour
  • if handwritten: using black ink and legible text
  • if typed: using black text set to at least 16pt in size

Download a site notice template [same as current, but with updated logo]

You should add the following details to the notice template:

  1. The name of the applicant.
  2. The name that the premises is known by and the postal address of the premises. If there is no postal address for the premises, write a description that identifies the location and area the premises covers.
  3. Details of the proposed licensable activities, including type(s) of entertainment and operational days and times.
  4. The last date that representations on the premises licence application can be made. This is 28 consecutive days from the day after you submit your application.

How to display your notice on site

  • Display your notice prominently at the premises.
  • Make sure it can be read easily from the exterior of the premises.
  • If a premises covers more than 50m2: Display notices every 50 metres along the external premises boundary, next to any roads.

How to publish a notice in the local newspaper

You need to advertise your notice in a local newspaper if you apply for:

  • a new premises licence
  • a full variation of a licence

You do not need to advertise your notice when you apply for:

  • a minor variation of a licence

You should select a newspaper that:

  • is circulated in the vicinity of the premises (preferably the Herald Express)
  • is published at least once within 10 working days of the day after you submitted your application.
