Find out about this alternative style of accommodation

Shared lives offer an alternative style of accommodation to supported living or residential care. It is where people live in their carer’s home, sharing family life. They receive care and support to be as independent as possible. Shared lives offer:

  • longer-term live-in support
  • short breaks
  • support during the day from the carers home

Shared lives provide all carers are with a comprehensive training package. We will match you with a carer who you’ll get on with. You can also have a trial stay. You can make sure you are happy with the arrangement before proceeding.

Who can use Shared Lives

This may be an option for you if you:

  • are over 18 years old
  • need help with everyday living
  • are in receipt of care service

How to apply for shared lives

If you are interested in Shared Lives as a placement, short break or care option you should talk with your social worker in the first instance. They will refer you to the service on your behalf.

If you don’t have a social worker, you will need to make an adult social care referral. You can then get advice and request an assessment. To do this please call our customer service number on 01803 217900.
