Carbon Neutral Council

We want to take action in every area to become carbon neutral. This includes: 

• our energy 
• transport 
• housing 
• planning 
• how we work with our suppliers 

We’ve shown this in our new Carbon Neutral Action Plan and Carbon Neutral Policy. 

Actions already taken include: 

• installation of energy saving LED streetlights and LED lighting across the Council estate. 
• installation of heat pumps and solar panels 
• developing two new solar farms in Torbay 
• secured funding to install electric vehicle charging points across the Bay 

Some of the key actions in our Carbon Neutral Council Action Plan include: 

• new policy and set of zero carbon principles for all staff to follow. More information about the Environment and Carbon Neutral Policy. 
• reviewing our fleet and transitioning it over time to zero emissions vehicles 
• electric car hire scheme for longer business journeys 
• consult and co-design with our communities on a flood defence solution for Paignton and Preston Sea front 
• £1m of projects to decarbonise the estate and fleet 
• change the way we make decisions to make sure we consider the impacts on the climate
