Level 3: Safeguarding Children Refresher (virtual)

This is the Level 3 Safeguarding Children Refresher course offered by Torbay Safeguarding
Children Partnership. This course is available to those who need to update their Safeguarding Children Foundation course.

This course focuses on Torbay (information on Devon is available within the resources section after the course).

The course will require learners engagement in the learning process and is not delivered through PowerPoint presentation alone. The course requires you to take part in group work.

You will also be required to take part in self-reflection activities which enable you to set actions relating to your own, your team and your organisation's safeguarding practice.

The course will look at the Threshold Tool, risk analysis skills and mapping of cases. The course has a mandatory e-learning module that must be completed prior to attending the class-based session.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain what happens post referral to children’s social are and how to escalate concerns
  • Explain how agencies work together to identify, assess and meet the needs of children with safeguarding concerns within a multi-agency plan
  • Recognise the impact of parental issues such as domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental health on parenting capacity
  • Recognise the importance of family history and functioning
  • How to working with complex family dynamics
  • Discuss lessons from serious case reviews
  • Refer to current policy, research and practice developments
  • Identify adverse childhood experiences and work in a trauma informed responsive way
  • Explain the importance of communicating effectively with children and young people
  • Contribute to the escalation of concerns

Please note: if you completed your Safeguarding Children Foundation course more than 3 years and 6 months before your refresher course date you must re-complete the Safeguarding Children Foundation (excluding Frontline Children's Social Workers).

  • Non Subscriber: £74.85
  • Subscriber (paid in advance at beginning of financial year): £59.85
