Whole council support

Being a corporate parent is everyone's responsibility.

When children and young people come into our care, Torbay Council takes on the role of a corporate parent. We recognise that many young people continue to receive support from their families well into adulthood and, as your corporate parent, we want to provide the advice, support and opportunities that help you thrive and achieve your goals.

Our Corporate Parenting Pledge sets out the commitments we make to care experienced children and young people. These commitments help guide the work of every council service and partner organisation involved in supporting you.

This means that, in addition to support from your Personal Adviser and the Care Experienced Team, a range of council services work together to help you access the support, opportunities and services you need.

This may include support with:

  • Housing and accommodation.
  • Benefits, budgeting and financial support.
  • Education, training and employment.
  • Apprenticeships, work experience and volunteering.
  • Physical and emotional health and wellbeing.
  • Community activities, participation and having your voice heard.
  • Support for parents and families.
  • Identifying and accessing local opportunities and services.
  • Justice services and community safety support.
  • Support for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We are committed to:

  • Listening to your views and involving you in decisions that affect your life.
  • Helping you feel safe, supported and valued.
  • Supporting you to achieve your ambitions and aspirations.
  • Helping you develop the skills and confidence needed for adulthood and independent living.
  • Working together across council services and partner organisations to remove barriers and create opportunities.

If you are unsure what support is available, speak to your Personal Adviser, who can help you access the services, advice and opportunities available to you.

How to access support

If you think this support could help you, speak to your Personal Adviser. They can explain what is available, check whether you are eligible and help you access the support you need.
