Live shellfish registration

Find out how to register live shellfish with us.

The harvesting and sale of live shellfish are strictly controlled. This is because they could cause serious illness due to the way they feed.

If you harvest shellfish you must complete registration documents for every batch. These documents must stay with each batch from harvesting to processing and dispatch.

This helps us trace shellfish and means that shellfish placed on the market are safe to eat.

Live shellfish includes:

  • bivalve molluscs (e.g. cockles, clams, mussels and oysters)
  • marine gastropods (e.g. winkles, whelks)

There is no fee for the registration documents.
