We use a range of laws to investigate and deal with complaints about noise, but generally speaking we can only help with ongoing persistent problems and we cannot deal with one off events such as noise from a one off party.  The exception to this are things like alarms which sound continuously.

We would be unlikely to deal with noise from everyday living so noise such as:

  • Children playing outside
  • Babies crying
  • Voices (unless exceptionally loud or at an unreasonable time)
  • Everyday domestic noises like washing machines, vacuum cleaners or lawn mowers
  • Rowdy behaviour in the street as this is a Police Opens in a new window matter
  • Traffic noise
  • Noise from essential maintenance
  • Aircraft noise
  • Railway noise
