Graffiti is the illegal writing of messages, painting on or carving of public and private property.

We can only remove graffiti on buildings and street furniture that we own. The removal of graffiti on private property is the responsibility of the person who owns the property.

Your safety is important. If you see someone graffitiing contact the police on 999.

Penalties

Anyone we catch in the act can be issued with a £75 Fixed Penalty Notice. If they choose not to pay it they can face a £2,500 fine in court.

Removing graffiti from your property

If you have graffiti on your property there are services you can hire to have it removed. If you want to remove it yourself you can contact us for advice. Please also contact the police on telephone 101 (non emergency number) to report the damage to your property.
