When someone dies, you will need to report the death to many government organisations and departments. Tell Us Once is a service that lets you do this in one go.

Different ways you can access the service

In person

After the registrar has registered the death they can complete the details on Tell Us Once for you.

By Phone

You will need to have your unique reference number which the registrar will give you when you register the death.

Information you need to use the service

Most of the information you provide to register the death will be used for Tell Us Once.
You will be asked about any benefits or services that the deceased was receiving.

If you want to complete Tell Us Once when you are registering the death, it would be helpful to bring the following if they are available:

  • Valid passport
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Valid Blue Badge
  • National Insurance Number
  • Valid Bus Pass
