Torbay Council launches new countryside car park permit

News Release PR9486 - published on 1 May 2026

We have launched a new countryside car park permit, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy some of Torbay’s most loved green spaces all year round.

The new permit has been introduced following feedback from residents and local businesses after the liquidation of the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust (TCCT) and is now open to applications on the council’s website.

It is designed to make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy some of Torbay’s green spaces and to support local businesses and attractions in these areas.

The permit will be available for an initial 12-month period and will last for one year once purchased.

It will cost £85 and can be used in six of Torbay’s popular countryside car parks including:

  • Ansteys Cove, Torquay
  • Berry Head, Brixham
  • Cockington Court, Torquay
  • Cockington Cycle Hub, Torquay
  • Higher Lodge, Cockington Torquay
  • Sharkham, Brixham

The introduction of the new permit will mean that from Sunday 3 May former TCCT car park permits will no longer be accepted in any of our car parks. From this date, visitors to the car parks will either need to have a valid Torbay Council car park permit or pay at the car park as usual.

Councillor Adam Billings, Torbay Council's Cabinet Member for Pride in Place and Parking, said:

“Torbay’s countryside and coastline are at the heart of what makes our area special, and our cherished green spaces play a vital role in our resident's health, happiness and sense of place.

“Following the closure of the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust (TCCT), we wanted to find a practical way to help people to continue enjoying these special places, while also supporting former TCCT members, and this new permit is an important part of that.”
