You’ve got the Right Stuff – Recycling in Torbay has increased!

In February 2023, 25% more household recycling was collected than in February 2022, and to celebrate, Torbay Council and SWISCo are giving away a free garden waste subscription to their 5,000th subscriber.

As part of Torbay Council’s plans to increase recycling, a range of measures were introduced last year including:

  • the Right Stuff Right Box campaign was launched in July 2022. The aim was to simplify, and increase, recycling in Torbay and we sent out blue bags for paper, colour coded stickers for recycling boxes, and letters and leaflets about the new scheme.
  • a kerbside garden waste collection service, delivered by SWISCo on behalf of Torbay Council, was launched in October 2022, and so far nearly 5,000 local residents have subscribed to the service, which costs £50 per year (or £40 per year if you are on Council Tax Support).

Steve Darling, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “Thank you so much to everyone who has worked hard to get the right stuff in the right box, and also to all those of you who have signed up to our garden waste service so far – with a huge 400 tonnes of garden waste already collected since we launched in October.

“To celebrate we are giving away a free year’s garden waste subscription to the 5,000th person to sign up.”

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We need to do all we can to help our environment and tackle climate change and we must reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we possibly can.”

To be in with the chance of winning a garden waste subscription, you’ll need to go on our website and register for a subscription and we will then reimburse the 5,000th subscriber.

This is a one off offer so make sure you do want a garden waste subscription before you enter!
