With 51 days until the Coronation of Kings Charles III on Saturday 6 May, we are working with community partners to put on a weekend of free celebratory events.

The special bank holiday weekend (6-8 May) will see family, friends and communities come alive with a range of events to honour the new monarch.

The celebrations start on Saturday 6 May with the official Coronation Ceremony being live streamed on a big screen on Torre Abbey Meadows in Torquay. Bays Brewery, along with local caterers will be on site between 10am and 6pm to keep visitors fed and hydrated as they relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Day one of the festivities ends with a spectacular firework display courtesy of Anderton and Rowland Funfair from the award-winning Blitz Fireworks from Paignton seafront (timings to be confirmed).

The celebrations continue on Torre Abbey Meadow on Sunday 7 May with an afternoon of live entertainment and performances from local acts, before the Royal Coronation Concert is broadcast on the big screen.

From 11am the team behind Children’s Week will be starting the live entertainment, before music performances from local acts including Rock Choir, The Humanitarians and Sound Communities take to the stage. The afternoon will end with the nations funkiest ten-piece band Joey The Lips – ensuring everyone is up dancing, ready to join in with the nations coronation party.

Throughout the afternoon families and children can also be kept entertained with a range of activities, fun, games, and walkabout acts.

Picnics, blankets, and Union Jack flags welcome as we join millions across the UK with a Coronation Big Lunch celebration. Bays Brewery and local caterers will again be on site until the end of the Royal Coronation Concert.

Torbay Community Development Trust (TCDT) will be running a volunteer hub to let you know about Torbay wide volunteering opportunities and the positive impact volunteering has on communities, ahead of The Big Help Out national event on Monday 8 May.

Elsewhere across Torbay, Anderton and Rowlands Funfair will be heading to Paignton Green from Friday 28 April, with the Community Partnership also looking to put on community events in Paignton.

Brixham Future Partnerships are organising six-days of celebrations between Wednesday 3 and Monday 8 May. Celebrations include a Coronation Breakfast on the ‘Vigilance’, musical concerts and performances, sing-a-longs, a Coronation Parade, and a firework display from around 9pm on Sunday 7 May, plus more!

The seafront festoon lighting along Torquay and Paignton will also be changed to red, white, and blue for the weekend to mark the historic occasion.

Cllr Mandy Darling, The Worshipful The Mayor of Torbay said; “Last summer I was delighted to welcome the then Prince of Wales to Torbay, and join in the with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. I’m once again looking forward to coming together with the community to mark this historic occasion of the Coronation of Kings Charles the third.”
