Garden waste drop off service to resume in Torquay and Brixham

The garden waste drop-off points at Torquay and Brixham will be starting up again in February.

The garden waste drop-off points at Torquay and Brixham will be starting up again in February.

From Sunday 5 February (9.30am to 1.30pm), residents will be able to take their garden waste to Brixham College, Higher Ranscombe Road, Brixham, and will be on the first Sunday of every month.

Then from Sunday 12 February (9.30am to 1.30pm), the drop off service also resumes at Torquay Town Hall car park, on the second and fourth Sunday of every month (so the next one after that will be Sunday 26 February).

The service – which is run by SWISCo on behalf of Torbay Council - is for household garden waste only. We will accept:

  • grass cuttings
  • flowers
  • small tree branches up to 10cm thick
  • loose leaves
  • shrub trimmings
  • hedge trimmings

We will not take any other type of waste or commercial waste.

Steve Darling, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “We’re pleased to be able to announce the dates for the next lot of garden waste drop offs for Torquay and Brixham.

“And if you haven’t yet signed up for the kerbside garden waste collection service – why not join the thousands of people in Torbay who have already registered and get garden waste collections from your own home? It’s more convenient and will save trips to the Recycling Centre or the drop off points.”

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “If you sign up for garden waste collections, you get a 240 litre brown bin for your garden waste and if you need more, you can subscribe for up to three brown bins. It’s better for the environment, will help raise Torbay’s recycling rates, and a local farm will turn your green waste into compost and use it locally.”

If you are interested in signing up for garden waste collections from your own home, the charge is £50 per subscription and that covers a period of 12 months.
