One of the footpaths at Royal Terrace Gardens in Torquay will be temporarily closed to allow for annual works to manage vegetation.
The work, which will start on Monday 13th September, will include closure of half of the top footpath, and is expected to take around eight weeks. Access to lower footpaths at Royal Terrace Gardens will however remain open. The works would usually take place earlier in the year but had been postponed due to nesting birds and also to ensure it takes place during the less busy period after the school holidays.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “The works that will be taking place are done every year to maintain the vegetation and keep Royal Terrace Gardens looking attractive for residents and visitors.”
Royal Terrace Gardens, also known as Rock Walk is a network of paths with Mediterranean planting throughout. In 2007, a project to improve Royal Terrace Gardens began with new paths put in and the distinctive pink bedrock emphasised with some of the vegetation taken away.
Further improvement works to Royal Terrace Gardens are being carried out this year as part of a series of projects to create spaces to thrive, including improvements to illuminations there as well as at Abbey Gardens and Princess Gardens. Lightplay has been funded with £200,000 from the £750,000 accelerated funding received as part of the first phase of Torquay’s Town Deal, and is being carried out by local contractors Drew & Co working with the award-winning Michael Grubb Studio to complete the installation.
