Essential highway maintenance will be taking place across Torbay, starting on Monday 22 May through to Friday 26 May. The maintenance taking place is called surface dressing and is used to prolong the life of the road structure.
This work, which will be undertaken by the Council’s partner contractor Hazel & Jefferies Ltd, forms part of Torbay Council’s Annual Maintenance Programme. The cost for this work will be £170k.
Executive Lead for Planning, Transport and Housing, Councillor Mark King, said: “It’s important for us to complete preventative maintenance works on our roads to ensure they remain safe and efficient for our residents. Please allow extra travel time if you are using any of the roads affected as, with any roadworks, there may be some delays.”
The maintenance will be taking place on the following streets:
- Higher Warborough Road
- Kings Ash Road (Whitebeam to Luscombe Road)
- Higher Warberry Road (Windsor Road to Sutherland Road)
- Barton Road (Hele Road to Cricketfield Road)
- Newton Road (Torre Station to Shiphay Lane)
- Brownsbridge Road
- Beechfield Road
- Barton Hill Way
Residents on these roads will be sent letters informing them of the works. Signs giving warning of the works will be placed on lamp columns and in the affected street.
The road will be surfaced under a Stop/Go System of traffic management and although the work is relatively quick, delays should be expected. Please also note that the road works are weather dependant and these dates may change.

If anyone has any questions regarding the work, they can contact Torbay Council's Highways Department on 01803 207 716.
