A new Decent Homes Standard will apply to private rented homes in England under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
The standard is not yet in force for the private rented sector and will not be enforced until 2035.
Landlords must continue to comply with existing housing standards and safety legislation. This page will be updated when the government publishes further guidance and implementation details.
