We often receive complaints about vehicles being advertised for sale on the road.

They can cause a significant nuisance to local residents by taking up valuable parking spaces and can also cause obstructions.

Individual private sellers can advertise a vehicle for sale on the road as long as it is parked legally but it is an offence to sell two or more vehicles on the road within 500 metres of each other.

The legislation is part of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 Opens in a new window.

Anyone found selling cars illegally on the road could be issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) for £100. If this is not paid they could be taken to court for non-payment.
