These terms and conditions explain our fees, payment deadlines, cancellation policy, and the legal requirements you must meet before your ceremony can take place.
Fees and payments
Booking fee (non-refundable)
- A non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your ceremony date and time.
- This fee is payable at the time of booking, whether booked online or by telephone.

Ceremony and certificate fees
- Ceremony and certificate fees must be paid at least two calendar months before your ceremony date.
- If you book within two months of your ceremony, full payment is required at the time of booking.
Changes to fees
- Our fees are reviewed annually and may change at other times.
- If your ceremony takes place on or after 1 April, new fees may apply.

registrar@torbay.gov.uk to confirm the total cost of your ceremony.
Cancellations and refunds
If you cancel your ceremony, refunds depend on how much notice you give:
12 weeks or more before the ceremony
- Full ceremony fee refunded
- Refund for any certificates ordered
6 to 12 weeks before the ceremony
- 50% of the ceremony fee refunded
- Refund for any certificates ordered
6 weeks or less before the ceremony
- Refund for certificates ordered only
You may wish to take out an appropriate insurance policy to cover cancellation or postponement due to unforeseen circumstances.
Notice of marriage or civil partnership (legal requirement)
Giving notice
- You should make an appointment to give notice at least six months before your ceremony date, unless we agree another timescale with you.
- The legal minimum notice period is 30 days before your ceremony (longer in some circumstances – see below).
- Notice must be given by appointment in the registration district where you live.
Notice fees
- A statutory fee is payable to your local Register Office.
- This fee is paid when you book your notice appointment.
Your responsibility
- You must tell us if you are unable to give notice within the required timescale.
- We reserve the right to cancel your ceremony booking if notice is not given in time.

Changes to your venue
- If you change your venue after giving notice, you must give notice again.
- A fee is payable for each new notice.
- This is a legal requirement.
Immigration and nationality checks
Registration officials are legally required to refer some notices to the Home Office.
This applies if:
- Either or both parties are not British or Irish citizens, or
- Relevant immigration status cannot be confirmed, including:
- EU, EEA or Swiss nationals without settled or pre-settled status
- Those who did not apply to the EU Settlement Scheme by 30 June 2021
What this means
- The notice period may be extended from 28 days to 70 days.
- This could affect your ceremony date.
