Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) held their Board meeting last night where the future of the integrated partnership for the delivery of health and Adult Social Care was discussed. At their meeting the TSDFT Board did agree that they will be giving formal notice on the partnership at the end of March 2026, which means from April 2027 the Council will take back the responsibility for delivering Adult Social Care.
We want to assure you that there will be no immediate changes to anyone’s care. Services will continue as they do now. We will continue to work closely with the Trust to make sure that those who are currently accessing care and support services will continue to receive the appropriate care as we transition to the new arrangement.
Cllr David Thomas, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “I am really disappointed that Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust have decided to give notice on the integrated partnership for the delivery of Adult Social Care. The partnership has supported important work for our residents over many years, and I want to thank and recognise the commitment shown by staff across both organisations.
“We will now focus on planning the safe transfer of Adult Social Care back to the Council from April 2027. Our priority is to make sure residents continue to receive appropriate care and support throughout this period, and we will work closely with the Trust and all our partners to make sure the transition is smooth.
“We have already put robust programme and project arrangements in place to prepare for these changes. This includes work to strengthen Adult Social Care, so it is sustainable, outcomes focused and provides the best possible support for local people.
“Although change brings challenges, it also offers the chance to shape services that reflect our vision for thriving communities where people prosper. We will use this opportunity to build strong, high‑quality services and deliver better outcomes for our residents.”
As the transition takes place, we will make sure we provide regular updates here for you.
