Residents and motorists are being advised of a series of essential improvement works on Dartmouth Road over the coming weeks.
The programme begins with gas network upgrade works being carried out by Wales & West Utilities during the October half-term period, followed by highway resurfacing works commissioned by Torbay Council later in November.
Wales & West Utilities will return to Dartmouth Road during the October half-term period to complete work upgrading gas pipes in the area. The work follows an instruction by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that the pipes need upgrading for safety reasons.
As part of these works, temporary traffic management will be in place on Dartmouth Road, with motorists advised to plan journeys in advance and allow extra time where possible.
Once the gas works have been completed, we will undertake a programme of highway resurfacing works on the A3022 Dartmouth Road between 23 November and 18 December. The improvements will involve removing the existing road surface, resurfacing the carriageway, renewing road markings and reinstating high-friction surfacing at key locations.
The scheme forms part of our ongoing investment in maintaining the local highway network. The works are essential to address deterioration of the existing road surface and improve the condition of this key route. Delaying the scheme would allow the road condition to deteriorate further, leading to more extensive repairs, higher costs and greater disruption for residents, businesses and road users in the future.
To enable the work to be carried out safely, temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place throughout the scheme. Access arrangements will be managed carefully to minimise disruption wherever possible.
A Council spokesperson said:
"This scheme is part of our continued investment in Torbay's infrastructure and our commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable highway network. By carrying out these improvements now, we can extend the life of the road, improve safety for all users, and help avoid the need for more extensive and costly repairs in the future.
"We recognise the impact roadworks can have on residents, businesses and visitors, and we are grateful for the community's patience while these essential improvements are delivered. We also want to reassure people that Brixham remains open and accessible throughout the works, and we encourage everyone to continue supporting local businesses during this period."
Residents and road users are encouraged to allow extra time for journeys while the works are taking place, follow all signed diversions and temporary traffic management measures, and where possible, avoid travelling during peak periods to help minimise delays.
Throughout the programme of works, Brixham and the surrounding area will remain open and accessible. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue supporting local businesses and attractions while these essential infrastructure improvements are carried out.
Further information on the gas network upgrade works is available from Wales & West Utilities, while updates on the resurfacing programme will be provided by Torbay Council as the works progress.
