Businesses, residents, young people and visitors invited to help shape the future of Brixham Central.

News Release PR9594 - published on 1 October 2026

Residents, businesses, young people, visitors and community groups are being invited to help shape the future of Brixham Central as we launch the next phase of public engagement on plans for one of the town's most important locations.

Brixham Central is much more than a place to park. It serves as the main gateway to the town and is often the first impression people have when arriving in Brixham. The space plays a vital role in connecting residents, visitors and businesses to the town centre, harbour and waterfront.

Working alongside our regeneration partners Willmott Dixon and Milligan, we are developing proposals to create a welcoming, attractive and accessible gateway that reflects Brixham's unique character, heritage and identity.

This latest phase of engagement is focused on the future of the public realm around Brixham Central and how the area should look, feel and function in years to come.

We are keen to hear from people who travel by public transport, walking or cycling, accessibility and inclusion groups, businesses, younger residents and visitors to ensure future plans reflect the needs of the whole community.

Earlier engagement highlighted strong support for improvements to Brixham Central, with many respondents saying the area currently feels tired, outdated and lacks the quality expected of a key town centre arrival point. Feedback also identified priorities including improved landscaping, clearer wayfinding, better seating, enhanced accessibility and improved facilities for bus and coach users.

While previous engagement also explored parking provision in the town centre, no decisions have been made on any future parking solution. The current engagement is not asking people to comment on a specific car park proposal. Instead, it seeks to understand what matters most to the community when it comes to the wider experience of arriving in and moving around Brixham.

People are being asked to share their views on:

§  The arrival experience into Brixham

§  Walking routes and connections around the town centre

§  Accessibility and inclusion

§  Local character, heritage and identity

§  Opportunities for seating, landscaping and public spaces

§  How any future works could be delivered while maintaining access and minimising disruption

The feedback gathered will help establish a community-led vision and inform future design principles for the site.

Have your say

A public drop-in event will be held at Scala Hall, Brixham, on Saturday 3 October 2026 from 10am to 2pm.

Visitors will be able to view the latest information, explore ideas for the future of Brixham Central and speak directly with members of the project team.

Those unable to attend can take view the information online and share their views by completing the engagement survey. All details can be found on the dedicated webpage.

The online survey will remain open until 5pm on Friday 16 October 2026.

Cllr Chris Lewis, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place Development and Economic Growth, said: "Brixham Central is one of the most important locations in the town. It is the gateway through which many residents, visitors and businesses experience Brixham, and we want to ensure its future reflects the needs and aspirations of the whole community.

"This engagement is about much more than parking. We want to understand how people move through the area, how accessible it is, how it supports local businesses and how we can create public spaces that are welcoming, inclusive and distinctly Brixham.

"We're particularly keen to hear from businesses, public transport users, accessibility groups and community organisations so that a wide range of voices help shape the vision for this key town centre location and support a strong economic future for Brixham."

Next steps

This phase of engagement will run until Friday 16 October 2026. All feedback received will be reviewed alongside comments gathered during previous engagement activities and used to help develop a preferred design approach.

We anticipate submitting a planning application in the spring of 2027, with consultation on a preferred proposal expected to take place beforehand. These timescales remain indicative and may be subject to change.

By taking part, residents, businesses and community groups can help shape the future of a key town centre space and ensure Brixham Central becomes a gateway that is welcoming, accessible and fit for the future.
