We are once again inviting local groups, organisations and charities to apply to the Local Heritage Grant Scheme as it opens for a second round of applications from today, Monday 28 September.

It follows a successful first round earlier this year, which saw nine heritage projects awarded funding through the scheme.  

Celebrating ‘Writers, Artists and Musicians on the English Riviera’, the Local Heritage Grant Scheme supports community-led projects that explore Torbay’s rich literary, artistic and musical heritage and help more people connect with the stories that make the Bay special.

It has been made possible by just under £250,000 of funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which was awarded to the council to deliver the initiative.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to support activities, with grants of up to £7,000 available for capital projects, such as signage and physical improvements to spaces.

Local groups applying to the scheme are encouraged to think creatively about how they could engage residents and celebrate Torbay’s connections with the writers, artists and musicians who have been inspired by the English Riviera.

Projects could include things like heritage walking trails, digital enhancement at existing heritage sites and commemorative installations or events.

To assist potential applicants, our Local Heritage Grant Support Officer will be hosting free, in-person advice sessions across Torbay, as well as a series of online drop-in sessions. These drop-in sessions are open to all and provide informal guidance to answer any questions people may have.

• Torquay Library on Tuesday 29 September between 10am and 1pm.
• Brixham Library on Wednesday 30 September between 10am and 12.30pm.
• Paignton Library on Thursday 1 October between midday and 5pm.

• Tuesday 6 October between 11am and 1pm.
• Wednesday 7 October between 6.30pm and 8pm.
• Thursday 8 October between midday and 2pm.
