Beach users are being advised of essential repair works taking place at Meadfoot Beach in Torquay this autumn.

The works will focus on repairing the sheet piling structure and form the final phase of repairs to sea defences that were damaged during Storm Ingrid at the beginning of this year.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, the western section of the promenade adjacent to beach chalets 1 to 30 will be closed from 7am on Monday until 5pm on Friday throughout the construction period. Access will be reinstated at weekends when work is not taking place.

This section of the promenade will be closed from Monday 28 September to allow for site preparation, with the repair works expected to start on Monday 5 October. The works are anticipated to take ten weeks to complete but these timings are heavily subject to weather and tidal conditions. The works have been purposely scheduled outside of the main beach season to minimise disruption.

While this section of the promenade will be closed during working hours, the beach and sea will remain accessible to the public via alternative routes throughout the project. Visitors can continue to access the beach using the slipway or by using the steps at the far end of the beach, reached by walking behind the first block of chalets at upper promenade level. This route includes a steeper flight of steps and may not be suitable for everyone.

The beach itself will remain open as normal, as will Meadfoot Beach Café and Above Water.

By scheduling the works after the summer season, we are aiming to minimise disruption while carrying out these important repairs to our coastal infrastructure.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of chalet holders, residents and visitors while these works are completed. Importantly, access to the beach will remain available throughout the project via alternative routes."
