Torbay to shine brighter than ever this Christmas as Bay of Lights dates announced

The much-loved Bay of Lights will return this year from Saturday 28 November to Sunday 3 January, with an extended programme of festive events and activities set to dazzle the English Riviera.

Delivered in partnership with us and the English Riviera BID Company, the Bay of Lights is now in its fifth year has become one of the South West’s most popular festive attractions.

At its heart is the spectacular 1.5-mile Illumination Trail, stretching along Torquay seafront and featuring eye-catching light installations, interactive displays and unforgettable photo moments. The trail is free, fully accessible, and designed for visitors of all ages to enjoy. This year’s trail will feature enhanced installations and interactive elements, creating an even more magical experience for visitors.

The celebrations will begin with a spectacular free fireworks display on Saturday 28 November, lighting up the skies above Torquay Harbourside and marking the start of the festive season in style.

Following its successful debut last year, the ice rink will return to Abbey Park, with an expanded skating area and extended opening throughout the festive period. Visitors can also enjoy a festive food and drink offering outside the rink, creating a lively seasonal hub.

The Christmas Market will also return to Torre Abbey, featuring a wider range of traders, seasonal street food and festive stalls. The nearby Spanish Barn will host a packed programme of entertainment, including a WinterFest artisan market and seasonal theatre performances, adding even more to the Bay of Lights experience.

Event organisers continue to work behind the scenes to introduce exciting new additions to this year’s Bay of Lights programme, ensuring there is even more for visitors to discover. More details about these new features will be announced later this year.

With its stunning coastal setting and dazzling array of festivities, the Bay of Lights is fast becoming a must-visit festive attraction. Beyond Torquay, the Bay of Lights glow extends across to Paignton and Brixham, where visitors can enjoy a variety of enchanting experiences. From heartwarming lantern parades, to carols by candlelight and dazzling pixel tree installations, each town offers its own unique sparkle. One of the standout highlights is the Christmas Train of Lights steam train. Adorned with lights it creates a truly unforgettable journey through the illuminated landscape of the English Riviera.
