Our Cabinet has approved the sale of Occombe Farm, along with land north of Preston Down Road (Paignton), to Greendale, paving the way for a vibrant new future for the much-loved site.
Subject to completion of the legal process, Greendale will now be able to progress plans to reopen Occombe Farm and bring forward more detailed proposals for a range of new leisure and retail facilities for the community.
Greendale already operates a well-established business in the Exeter area, which includes a farm shop, café and family-focused activities, and will now bring this extensive experience to Occombe Farm.
Their current vision would see significant investment in the site over the coming years, with the return of popular features such as the farm shop and café, both of which would help promote locally sourced produce, as well as plans to bring back the indoor play area.
It would also see the creation of new facilities such as indoor sports courts and, in the longer-term and subject to planning permission, the development of wider land into a glamping holiday retreat that would help attract visitors to the area and further support the local economy.
Following the decision, we will now work closely with Greendale to ensure all necessary legal processes are completed. More information about Greendale's proposals for Occombe Farm, and their plans to reopen, will be shared in due course once the sale is finalised.
Councillor Chris Lewis, Torbay Council's Cabinet Member for Place Development and Economic Growth, said:
"This decision marks a significant milestone for Occombe Farm. Greendale's experience, vision, and planned investment over the coming years offer a real opportunity to breathe new life into the site, valuing what made it so important to our residents, while also providing fantastic new facilities, supporting local businesses and bringing new energy, visitors and jobs to the area. I very much look forward to seeing plans progress and people enjoying Occombe Farm once again."
Greendale added:
"We're delighted that Torbay Council’s Cabinet has approved the sale of Occombe Farm. We look forward to working with the council to complete the process and deliver an exciting new proposition for the Torbay community."
