Torbay Lottery celebrates nine years of supporting local good causes

News Release PR9497 - published on 18 May 2026

Torbay Lottery will celebrate its ninth birthday on Saturday 23 May 2026. We are shining a light on some of the local community groups that have benefitted from its support.

Since its launch in 2017, the Torbay Lottery has raised more than £302,400 for the local community. £93,625 has been given away in winnings, with 105 people winning £250, nine people winning £2,000 each, and one lucky winner scooping the £25,000 jackpot.

There are 160 local groups currently signed up to the Torbay Lottery who use it as a fun and effective way to raise funds for their much-valued community services, and there are 1006 tickets currently in play.

Cllr Jackie Thomas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Events and Corporate Services, said: “I am so proud of what we have achieved over the past nine years and the additional money that we have helped to raise for our communities. In addition to the payments the good causes receive directly through ticket sales, the Torbay Lottery has given out £113,136 to local good causes through the Small Grants Fund to date and we will continue to give out more funding each year.

“I really hope more local groups will sign up and benefit from this online lottery, as well as more people playing the lottery to help support their favourite local groups. The lottery is free for causes to use and provides marketing and other communication materials customised to the cause to make it easier to promote and raise funds.

“My thanks go out to everyone who has supported our local groups and organisations through difficult times over the past few years. We could not do this without the generous support of all the weekly players. Please continue to support us and encourage your local groups and organisations to sign up so they too can benefit.”

Joel Sutton, from Youth Mental Health Foundation said: “The Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund has been instrumental in providing a lifeline to local families supporting a child struggling with mental health. By equipping parents with the skills to support their child’s recovery, we are directly reducing pressure on statutory services and the NHS.  We thank the Torbay Lottery for their commitment to improving wellbeing and reducing social isolation in our community.”

Torbay Lottery draws take place every Saturday night. Tickets cost just £1, and each ticket has a one in 50 chance of winning a prize each week. This includes a £25,000 jackpot prize if all six numbers are matched. Good causes that sign up to the Torbay Lottery receive marketing material, and their own Torbay Lottery webpage. They also receive 50p of the £1 price of tickets sold through their page. Ten pence additionally goes to the Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund.
