Our next Resident engagement event will take place in Brixham later this month, with information about the affordable housing scheme and the current Berry Head consultation.
As part of the Council’s ongoing ‘Your Say Torbay’ listening events Dave Thomas, Leader of Torbay Council, local ward councillors and representatives from the Council including the Housing team will be joining Brixham Town Council and a range of local community groups at the Celebration of Brixham event.
The event takes place at the Scala Hall in Brixham on Saturday 25 April from 10am to 2pm at the Celebration of Brixham event organised by Brixham Town Council.
Torbay Council’s Affordable Housing team will be at the event to promote the Repurposing of Accommodation scheme to local people, including opportunities for existing Housing Association tenants to downsize, and will also explain how the Local Allocations priority for Brixham operates.
Alongside this, the team will be on hand to offer advice on a wide range of housing matters, from accessing support and understanding housing options to managing tenancies and knowing where to turn if circumstances change. Anyone worried about their housing situation is encouraged not to wait. Speaking to our dedicated colleagues early can make a real and positive difference.
Information will also be available for people who want to give their views on the current consultation on future plans for Berry Head.
Dave Thomas, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “We hold regular Resident engagement events at various locations across the Bay, and this month it is the turn of Brixham.
“I’ll be there along with local ward councillors and representatives from our Housing team. There will also be a range of local community groups at the marketplace style event, including charities and organisations, so why not come along, have a chat, do some networking and ask us any questions you may have.
“There’s lots happening in Brixham at the moment and we would love to hear your views. One key project that we are currently consulting on is the future of Berry Head.”
Torbay Council and SWISCo are working together to create a new integrated management plan which will guide the future management of Berry Head National Nature Reserve (NNR) and the Berry Head to Sharkham Point component of the South Hams Special Area of Conservation.
The new plan will address the key priorities for the site, and help to co-ordinate action to restore, maintain and enhance key features so that they can continue to be enjoyed responsibly both now and in the future.
As part of this work, residents, visitors and local businesses are being asked to share why they visit and value Berry Head, and their views on its future management.
The public consultation will run until Friday 22 May 2026, giving everyone the chance to share their views. Feedback can be submitted online through the Torbay Council website or at a drop‑in event at Berry Head Visitor Centre on Tuesday 28 April from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
