You may have seen the news yesterday about the attack that occurred at a synagogue in Manchester. In response, Devon and Cornwall Neighbourhood Policing Teams alongside their Diverse Communities Teams have reached out to the synagogues and the Jewish communities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to offer reassurance and support.

Councillor Chris Lewis, Deputy Leader of Torbay Council, said:

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the troubling events that unfolded in Manchester yesterday. We know that this will be unsettling and upsetting for many people, especially our Jewish community. Our thoughts are with those affected by this, in Manchester, across our country and here in Torbay.

“We are committed to creating a Bay where everyone feels safe, valued and supported, regardless of their background, faith or identity. Please take time to check in with each other, a simple message or conversation can make a real difference.

“We are in touch with local police to understand any risks and ensure that our communities are protected. To report a hate crime please contact 101 (or 999 in an emergency), you can also report any information or intelligence via the Partnership Intelligence Portal.”
