Residents at the heart of community life are being sought to join the Torquay Place Leadership Board and help create a 10-year-strategy to help those in the town who most need it most.
Torquay was the only town in the South West to receive a share of £1.5billion of Government money designed to bring about change in a new way.
Under the Government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods, the Torquay focussed board sits alongside the Torbay Place Leadership Board and its wider three-town remit which has already secured over £100million investment.
The board met in April to meet a government registration deadline and to agree plans, so more key Torquay voices are heard and represented.
Board Members will be responsible for a business case for the next 10 years, and a four-year investment plan, with measures to create stronger communities and help Torquay to thrive.
They will have £1.5million in capital funding and £500,000 in revenue funding each year over the next decade.
The search is being supported by Torbay Communities, a charity that empowers and connects voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations.
The board are looking for a social housing landlord who holds housing stock in an area of deprivation in Torquay and can demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of residents living in these areas.
They are also looking for a community group representative to speak for residents in an area of deprivation in Torquay and can demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of residents living in these areas.
They are looking to recruit a representative from a local charity that works in areas of deprivation in Torquay and can demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of residents living in these areas.
The board are also keen to hear from anyone working in young leadership in Torquay who is able to regularly engage with young people and amplify their voices.
Direct approaches are also being made in key areas, such as schools, GP’s and Torquay’s Neighbourhood Forum.
The next meeting of the Torquay Place Leadership Board to start to plan the business case and interventions needed will take place on Monday 23 June.
